ENGLISH STYLE SCONES

Disclaimer: this recipe is for lazy people who don’t like to roll dough like me lol

These are a fun little treat that can be enjoyed with sweet fillings like jam or savory accompaniments such a eggs, chicken.. really, anything!

Let’s bake!

Ingredients

4 cups of flour

3 tablespoons baking power

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup sugar

125 grams butter, softened

1 egg

1 cup of milk, room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon of milk (save for the end)

Directions

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius

Because we aren’t rolling dough, we’ll use a cupcake pan.

Butter and lightly dust it with flour.

In a large bowl, sift flour, baking powder and salt.

Add sugar and combine well.

Add butter and mix it in with your hands until you get a yellowish crumbly mixture.

In a separate bowl combine egg, vanilla extract and milk.

Create a well in your butter and flour mixture.

Pour milk mixture into the well and combine again with your hands.

As you can see this is a very “hands on” process *insert laughter here lol*

You will notice that you’ve created a dough that is somewhere between stiff and soft.

Divide your dough into 20 equal sized balls. Place them in your floured cupcake pan and flatten the tops with your fingers (filling the cupcake hole half way). Finally, brush the dough with the milk you set aside.

Bake for 15-18 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.

Enjoy!

Tried this recipe during lockdown. I’ve never really baked before and this recipe was easy to follow. The scones came out pretty good! They looked and tasted like ones from a bakery! Thank you x
