HOW TO MAKE A BUTTERMILK SUBSTITUTE WITH ONLY TWO INGREDIENTS

Tags:

Have you ever seen buttermilk in a recipe and didn’t have any on hand but really wanted to get the recipe right? Or maybe you just didn’t want to spend on an entire bottle of buttermilk cause the recipe called for half a cup?

I have the perfect solution for you that I use religiously, I mean I don’t even buy buttermilk because this is a great substitute.

You literally need only two ingredients!

  1. 1 cup of milk (I always use full cream)
  2. 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or freshly squeezed lemon juice

So you take your milk and vinegar or lemon juice like this: (I normally use vinegar because I ALWAYS have it in my kitchen)

1 cup of milk; 1 tbsp of vinegar

Add your vinegar to the milk and stir

Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, until it’s curdled and this is how it looked after JUST 5 minutes:

Buttermilk Substitute

Use as much as the recipe calls for buttermilk.

Enjoy!
