A lot of people have been asking me for a simple vanilla cake they can try and I think it’s high time I shared one.

Note: Ensure you have correct measuring cups for best results!


1 3/4 cup flour

1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 + 1/8 teaspoon salt 

3/4 cup sugar

2 eggs 

1 tablespoon vanilla

3/4 cup vegetable oil 

3/4 cup buttermilk (if you have no buttermilk, find a two ingredient buttermilk substitute recipe here)


Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

Grease and lightly flour two 6 inch round baking pans.

Combines all dry ingredients, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar.

Combine all the wet ingredients, eggs, vanilla, oil and buttermilk.

Create a well in the dry ingredients.

Pour wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and combine well.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.

Decorate and enjoy!
