FOOD AND PRODUCTS IN YOUR KITCHEN THAT YOU CAN USE OUTSIDE OF THE KITCHEN

Tags:

Ever heard the saying ‘absence awakens your initiative?’ If you haven’t, it probably because I just made it up! Maybe someone can quote me one day lol.

Okay so let me get into it. This blog post is a compilation of some of the things I use, have used and intend to use that belong in the kitchen but can be used outside of the kitchen!

Number 1

Dishwashing liquid as shampoo

If you haven’t used this before, you probably think I’m crazy. I picked this up back in school when I’d see the girls around doing it. So a few nights ago, I realized I hadn’t bought shampoo, every one who knows me knows that I’m the shampoo and conditioner girl, so this was out of character for me. I breathed in, used dishwashing liquid to wash my hair and it worked great!

I’m not going to abandon my shampoo or anything but it’s a go to if you’re stuck and need a good wash.

Number 2

Mealie Meal (maize meal) as a face scrub

My little sister has bad facial skin and she uses this all the time as it’s readily available.

Just wet it a little and rub it against your face the same way you’d do a face scrub, rinse off and you’re good to go.

Best done before bed.

Number 3

Baking Soda to kill bad smells

Baking soda, also known as bicarbonate of soda is simply amazing! If you have children in the house who have just hit puberty, you know their sweat smells worse than anything in the world! Here a neat trick to kill the odor. Form a thick paste from baking soda and water and apply under their armpits, let them keep it there for 15 minutes and take a normal shower after. The smell will be gone for good! Works on adults too.

Baking soda can also be used killing odor in your shoes, on carpets and so much more! Works like a charm.

Number 4

Rice water as a conditioner

Soak rice in water to the ratio 1:1 and leave it tightly sealed for 24 hours or more. The longer it soaks, the stranger it gets.

Using a spray bottle, spray as much as you would conditioner and massage into your scalp and hair. Rinse out and style as desired.

Note: it is VERY smelly!

Number 5

Onion to cure flu

It might not cure the flu, but it does help clear your chest A LOT! Cut a thick horizontal slice and put it in your socks before bed, when you wake up, you’ll feel so much better. Take your meds still though.

Note: it is also VERY smelly!

Number 6

Ginger as a pain killer

My aunt just told me about this and I think it’s absolutely genius!

Works well for any pain, even menstrual cramps. Just chew on a root of ginger and you’ll feel that much better.

For menstrual cramps, start eating ginger a week before your expected date and your period pain will reduce tremendously.

Also: If you’ve had a long work day, just chew on ginger and it’ll make you feel recuperated!

BONUS NOT KITCHEN RELATED TIP

Aspirin as an anti dandruff.

I struggled with dandruff all my life until my aunt (she could be an angel really) told me about this.

So I got three tablets, crushed them into a powder, mixed them into a portion of my shampoo, applied it on my scalp and left it in for 15-20 minutes. Afterwards I washed, rinsed  and conditioned normally and I haven’t struggled with dandruff in years!

I hope these tips help you! Food is so amazing and diverse.

What are some of the things you use for more than their intended purposes? Let me know in the comments.

Eggs and mayonnaise are actually very good for conditioning hair. Mix the two and apply as you would your conditioner and the results are insanely good!

Apple cider vinegar can also be used as a rinse off for your hair and also for your face.
Food is beautiful. Thanks for the information, this was really helpful 🙂
